Frequently Asked Questions
What is a fine art appraisal?
A fine art appraisal is a formal, researched valuation of an artwork or collection. It includes an examination of the piece, supporting research, market analysis, and a written report prepared using recognized professional standards. Appraisals may be used for insurance, estates, legal matters, donation, resale, or personal records.
How much does an appraisal cost?
Appraisal fees vary depending on the nature of the project, including the amount of research required, and the number of pieces being assessed. We charge an hourly rate of $125 per hour.

You'll receive a free preliminary estimate before any work begins.
Do you need to see the artwork in person?
Ideally, yes. In-person examination ensures accurate assessment of materials, condition, and indicators that cannot be evaluated through photos alone. In some cases, a desktop (photograph-only) appraisal may be possible, but this depends on the piece and intended use.
What should I prepare for an appointment?
If available, please gather:
-
any paperwork or documentation
-
certificates of authenticity
-
provenance or ownership history
If you don't have any documentation, that's completely fine - it's not required.
Do you travel outside Lethbridge?
Yes - I serve clients throughout Southern Alberta. Travel fees may apply depending on location, but these will always be included in your estimate.
